Some of my friends have asked me about the origin of “Dark Viking” name. But, actually, there is no some kind of a hidden story underneath. It is just a combination of my activity, passion and… a nickname.
So, let’s start from “Viking”. Previously it was my nickname, given to me by some of my mates in a place I worked for may years. Because of my height, long hair and some clothes they started to call me “Viking” or “Thor Brother”. As a result, I’ve decided to use this name in some of my training projects. Finally, I’ve started to think about using it in my photography activity.
Obviously just one word was not enough for some kind of uniqueness and I’ve started to think about some options around this single word. It a while, the word “Dark” came into my mind and the combination looked pretty interesting.
And ow about the meaning of “Dark”. It has nothing in common with color or light. It is connected with the dark room. I still remember those hours we have spent in a dark room with my father. At that time my father used a Soviet film camera Zenit. After taking several film rolls he transformed our bathroom and kitchen in a photographer’s working place. I’ve assisted (or, probably, disturbed) him with using all the dark room equipment, liquids and photo paper. It was a really unforgettable experience!
And now you see that the meaning is just like a viking in a dark room.
Probably you will be curious “why I haven’t chosen my own name”? I really tried to think about such an option, but for majority of people from all over the world it is pretty hard to pronounce, particularly to remember it. That’s why my option was to pick some another “brand name” and use my proper name as an additive.
So, this was my small story behind the Dark Viking name. Nothing too secret )
