For the last several years everyone could hear this “affirmation” – Pentax is dead. But can we all agree with this? Can the company with years and years of rises and falls, being a market leader for some time, bringing many great technologies and features, and having one of the most loyal (if not the most loyal) community in the world just vanish from the modern days of photography?
My own opinion is – definitely not. And yes, I’m also a Pentax (DSLR) system user, as well as some other brands of film cameras. And I still see a huge passion from the Pentax team, and from Ricoh Imaging in particular. Obviously, due to the financial capabilities the tempo of offering some new models, lenses and other gear is very slow. Especially if you compare the Pentax system with other systems, which flood the market with all kinds of “new great models with new great features”. But let’s be frank, is it a really big issue? Do you need to swap camera bodies every year of two, or three? And what about lenses? Are those lenses, released 10 or 20 years, really bad to satisfy your needs?
While browsing through the YouYube videos I’ve discovered this awesome point of view. And yes, he is also a Pentax user, so there is some portion of a bias. So, meet Matt Bishop – the landscape photographer. A few months ago he released the video “Pentax | Where are they going?”, sharing his ideas and thoughts on the future of Pentax in general.
And I recommend watching Matt’s video and subscribe to his YouTube channel. He makes some nice photography related videos and reviews. You want regret this.
And here is his video. Enjoy watching and share your thoughts in the comments below.
And by the way, today another “undead” company has released its new camera – OM Systems OM-1. So, you are welcome to join the “dark room side” of photography! Cheers…
